The most compelling reason to provide a standard curriculum for all students is equality. We do not want our less-fortunate students who go to a neighborhood school have an inferior curriculum than those who go to better schools. We cannot let those who can afford better schools, therefore, better written and knowledge-packed curriculum, have an advantage over others. Pre-college education should be about equipping all students with the same set of knowledge and leave no child out. Keeping in mind that standard is different from universal. So while we cannot ensure that quality in public schools are better than in private schools, we can at least ensure that we create a level-playing ground for our students.
